We dare you to sit still. In Murcia, it's harder than you think.
With oodles of coast and a multitude on mountains, it should be no surprise that it boasts a bevy of activities. The 250km Mediterranean coastline is perfect for sailing, windsurfing, water skiing, kitesurfing, scuba diving and even bird watching (to name but a few).
Thanks to Mar Menor's shallow depths, warmer waters make winter water activities a pleasant possibility. The Murcian mountains offer walking, hiking, fishing, kayaking, rock climbing and wildlife viewing. Between Costa Cálida and the mountains are numerous golf courses that are in great shape all year round.
Thanks to the Murcia's sublime climate, which boasts plenty of sunshine and warm winter temperatures year round, you'll rarely ever be hampered from your outdoor endeavours by faulty weather.
Golf
Much like its northern neighbour, Costa Blanca, Murcia's rolling landscapes, both inland and on the coast, are now home to some gorgeous golf courses. The stunning, newly minted 27-hole Mosa Trajectum course sits near the village of Sucina.
By the end of 2006, Sucina will also host the new Peraleja course, which has been designed by Seve Bellasteros. These two courses may just be the finest in the entire region. There are even plans to build a championship 18-hole course just outside Balsicas.
Other quality courses in the region include: Club de Golf Altorreal in Molina de Segura; Club de Golf Camposol in Mazarrón; Club de Golf Torre Pacheco and Club de Golf Mar Menor Polaris in Torre Pacheco; Hacienda del Álamo in Fuente Álamo; La Manga Club in Cartagena; and Veneziola in San Javier.

Walking, Hiking & Trekking
There are a plethora of places to take pleasant walk in Murcia. Some of the better locales include Parque Natural de Sierra Espuña, Salinas y Arenales Nature Reserve, Calblanque Nature Reserve, Sierra de la Pila Regional Park and Humedal del Ajauque y Rambla Salada.
The sheer size of Parque Natural de Sierra Espuña along with its diverse topography means it has the most to offer. Though, the smaller Sierra de la Pila Regional Park even proffers 50 km worth of trails.
The Ricote Valley, between the Río Mula and Río Segura, and the Revolcadores Range in northwestern Murcia are both great for walking and hiking. Many of these locales are also perfect for horseback riding.
Sailing, Windsurfing, Waterskiing, Kitesurfing & Jet Skiing
We'd be here for days if we tried to list each and every place along the Costa Cálida to enjoy these water bound activities.
Though it must be said that Mar Menor, the massive saltwater lagoon in eastern Murcia, is laden with facilities.
The lagoon's shallow, crystal clear waters ensure warmer waters than seen in the Mediterranean during the winter, meaning these activities are possible all year long.
Scuba Diving and Snorkelling
Although there are dozens of fine diving and snorkelling sites along the Costa Cálida, its the glorious waters of Mar Menor that deservedly attract the most attention. The seabed around Mazarrón is also known as a great diving site.
Bowls
If you just can't live without your bowls, you can always drive north to the expat haven of Torrevieja on the Costa Blanca where there are several sociable clubs. Torrevieja is only a 35km drive from Murcia's San Javier Airport.
Rock Climbing
There are several quality rock climbing sites dotted throughout the Murcian hills. The most highly touted spots lurk within the limestone faces of the Sierra Espuña.
Tennis
There are numerous courts throughout Murcia to dive into tennis. Many of the gold clubs have quality courts, both clay and hard court.
Horseback Riding
Horseback riding is possible in many of the parks and reserves as well as along sections of Costa Cálida. There are also numerous horseback riding centres, including two well-respected ones around Mar Menor.
